about

This album is a compilation of demo’s recorded in Brisbane Australia in 1986 by ‘Ash In October’. The band recorded many songs over a 4 year period but only a handful were ever officially released. In recent years ‘Ash In October’ have garnered somewhat of an underground cult status, and so it’s time to give all of those old songs some light. This is the first of several albums to be released. We hope you will appreciate these recordings with the same rough and spontaneous spirit with which they were created over 30 years ago.

‘Ash In October’ came together in early 1986 when Lee Lee Ingram and Robert Draycott formally of ‘Prod And The Moonbaby’ met Richard Fenney and Paisley Hadley at Brisbane’s ‘School Of Audio’. The four took great advantage of their access to the schools recording studio, often spending entire weekends experimenting and recording. What initially began as a studio project grew into a frequently performing live band. Despite Brisbane’s lack of enthusiasm for electronic music at that time ‘Ash In October’ were supported and encouraged by local radio 4ZZZ who had the band on high rotation and often invited them in for interviews. Since those days band members have stayed in touch and very occasionally re-unite for a performance or to record. ‘Ash In October’ were last seen in action in early 2019.

These recordings were made using:
BOSS DR110 Drum machine, Roland SH101 synth, Yamaha CS01 synth, Casio MT70 keyboard, Casio VL-Tone keyboard, Casio CZ101 synth, Yamaha DX100 synth, Yamaha DX9 synth, Casio SK-1 Sampling Keyboard, Yamaha RX21 Drum Machine, Roland TR909 Drum Machine, Electric and Bass Guitars
